I can't offer much soothing, but I can tell you that you are sure not alone. Been there done that.

Back a few years now, I built a trailer to haul one of my race cars. One day, a friend (I thought) asked if he could use it to get a car home he was having trouble with. Since he had helped me build the trailer, I felt a bit obligated to let him get some benefit from his labor. So he takes it. Two weeks later, I'm getting ready to go racing, so I go over to his place to get the trailer. It's not there ....... He *loaned it* to some else, someone I didn't even know. As if this wan't bad enough, that guy then *loaned it* to another guy and we couldn't find him. Don't think I have to tell you that I was way more than just a bit pissed off.

Anybody want to borrow stuff from me now puts a hundred dollar cash deposit in my hand first. It's amazing how fast a hundred bucks will get stuff back.
