[Rhodes22-list] Politics, Replies and GB

As a military person I shudder to think what will happen when we begin to
fight wars by committee. We have a Commander in Chief. To change the
course he has to be convinced. The only way the Democrats have of
"changing" anything is by de-funding. I think, at this point, it would be a
disaster and set us up for attacks later.

Talk about political skill, just read his Rumsfeld statement:

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) today released the following
statement on the resignation of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld: "Last
night, the American people sent an overwhelming message to Washington that
it's time to change our failed course in Iraq, and today's resignation of
Donald Rumsfeld is a belated step in the right direction," said Obama. "But
to truly end the ideological mismanagement of this war, we must replace not
just a person, but a strategy, and that will take the work of both Democrats
and Republicans finding common ground and common solutions in the weeks to
come."

He is certainly one to watch.

Obama is very impressive. As far as I can tell he is not "playing
the black thing" to any real extent. He is very well spoken and seems to
know exactly what tack to take to steer a path that maximizes his
constituancy. His political skills are impressive. Whatever you say
about Bill Clinton and his character flaws, he had a real genius and
instinct for politics. Obama seems to have similar skills.

Mike,

Obama has star power, whether he has substance is yet to be determined. He
can only play the black thing so far. He's not entirely black or
'African-American". He's a likable guy and smart, but the race thing can
only carry you so far. If that's the trump card, I throw Condi Rice.

Seriously, there isn't a single probable candidate for Prez in 2008 that I'm
excited about. I like Richards and Byah from the Dems, and, uh, give me a
minute, someone who hasn't shown up yet from the other side. I'd vote for
Condi in a heartbeat but she wants to be Commissioner of the NFL. The fact
that I lust for her isn't a player in that decision

(This is still a private list, RIGHT?)

Hillary won't make it! I like McCain as a Senator, permanently. The
governor I just voted for from Tennessee would make a great President but
he's too dull. What's left?

The next two years could be very productive. I have some serious doubts
about Nancy but great faith in the incoming Freshman Dem Representatives.
The next important fight is intra-party more than extra-party.

Brad
