[Rhodes22-list] Cell Phone Triangulation

Thanks, Jim,

It's a shame for this region.

Different boaters have different problems and one size does not fit all.

The channels are so clogged around here it's tough to get in a word
edgewise, and impossible to know what channel you are supposed to be on.

I assume calls to the Coast Guard are supposed to go out on Channel 16?

They changed it to Channel 9 at one point, but I don't think that worked
out at all.

I have a 3 channel switcher that I use for
1--weather/16--emergency/72--launch -- 73 is the channel used by the
pooper scooper boats.

I have taught my wife to use the radio by insisting that she call for
the launch. That might also be the best emergency channel for her
because she knows how to turn it on, select a channel, talk back and
forth on it, they are the nearest boat with emergency experience in most
cases, and they know how to reach other boats and authorities. Also she
know how to deal with the chatter on that channel.

Many other yacht clubs also use Channel 72 for launch pick up, so that
might be my channel of choice for emergencies.

I'm going to leave my radio on more next summer, and listen to hear what
I think the emergency procedure should be for my boat.
