Maybe my knowledge of knots would come in handy for the situation described 
in the article. I would suggest a "slippery hitch" for quick release. For 
those that want to get trussed up a little tighter I know a knot called a 
"truckers hitch" that would work well. I have never used on a human but it 
does seem to keep my kayak on the luggage rack.
