Your experience with the primed pine is helpful. That's where I was headed. I'll avoid it now. Do you remember a brand for synthetic? I've used Trex before but it is heavy and I've only found it in 2" sizes. Storage of slats does become an issue. I was thinking storage in the lazarette but your suggestion might work.
I had not considered a smaller table altho the size of the standard does encroach upon the living space when erected. However, it always will be needed to set up the supplemental bunk room in cabin area which we found essential. In addition, I"m thinking it might be an alternative for converting the cockpit into sleeping quarters (spanning the slats).
The light was great. I felt like a magician as about 10 of us were returning after dinner in the dark at port and I was able to create a glowing boom room some distance away while the others mumbled and grumbled about finding their boats and stepping on board in the dark. One of the cruisers with us renamed my boom room as the 'Rhodes ball room with the chandelier'.

  Rex,

I made boards also, not yet used, I think 1x12 pine, primed. I later found a total synthetic material at HD, 1x8 I think, which I am using on my prototype rudder skulling system. The reason I mention this is that my primed pine still stick together, just a nuisance, and I would recommend the synthetic instead. The narrower 'slats' are more numerous, but possibly more easily stored also - like under the cabin bunk, where my boat has a sliding door.

Have you ever considered a bulkhead mounted variation of cabin table smaller than the standard one we all have? I'm noticing my larger standard table is a little restrictive. Any thoughts? Your recent experience in a cruising mode probably generated some cruising oriented wish list items.

I have another item I will send you in the coming weeks that I think you will enjoy using. Don't you enjoy surprises ! BTW, will your Admiral forever go unnamed? Mine is called Allison...

I've already measured and making arrangements to set support boards between the seats in the cockpit to support optional sleeping quarters in the cockpit with the boom room up. It's private with the ripstop but lets the air circulate. With the additional substitute screens for the stern and forward area it makes a great windscoop at anchor while keeping the flying varmits out. The admiral and I lived on Bow vs. Wave for 7 days while cruising Lake Michigan but---without the boom room----we might have had to go to counseling afterwards.
> We usually sailed from early morning until mid-afternoon--17 boats ranging from a 42 Beneteau as the largest to my Rhodes and a Cat22 as the smallest. Once anchored or docked, I would remove the ripstop on the sunny side of the boat to provide shade in the cockpit during the afternoon and evening which converted the Rhodes into the mosts popular sundowner bar in the neighborhood.
