Diane,
Remind us where you sail and locate the boat. There is probably another helpful skipper nearby. The IMF should operate pretty smoothly, does it bind as you turn it? Your own pictures are best suggested, rather than ours, as it makes it easier to spot a Murf.

>I haven't written in awhile. Spending some time trying to get to know my boat. I have a 1987 and I can't figure out a good plan for the main IMF halyard on the boom or a better solution for the furler. They both seem very stiff to use. I have tried spraying the tube and it helped a bit but I think that it should be easier. The halyard just is wrapped around a couple of cleats on the boom when it is pulled out and makes for a difficult time when in a hurry: no place to really keep the line. And I don't think the car is set right either. I wish I could see some up-close pictures of details of the entire boom, front to back. Someone, please help!
