Stan's 27 foot hull design.

As you all are aware Phil Rhodes designed the Rhodes Continental which
evolved into the Rhodes 22. Stan has stories to tell about his lawsuits
protecting the design.

This hull that you are discussing is not designed by a naval architect, but
that does not stop some protection of its design. The issue would be who
own's the design. As I pointed out earlier,
http://www.scorpioyachts.ca/trawler.html is the hull designer and maker.
To complicate the issue would be that they used the mold that they made to
make some hulls which they sell as trawler sailors. They do not use Stan's
deck. Stan did not use the following word, but has indicated that their
deck design is shitty.

Now this hull has been around for some years as Captain Rummy has pointed
out. There is a law affecting the hull shape. See:
http://www.copyright.gov/vessels/

Now we need Captain Crawford to explain this law to us.

And this law does not apply to nor negate any patents in the design.

To add to the discussion, Stan had a lady in his office try to send the
picture direct to me. His computer said that it sent the picture. Well, it
never came here. I suspect that it is a huge bit map image and needs to
converted to jpg format. So we all await Captain Rummy getting the cd and
converting the image so that all can see.

For the record many of us have walked around Stan's baby in the back
building. Probably a dozen or so have offered to buy it from Stan. Stan
has been waiting all this time for the interest shown this past week.

The biggest issue would be to make molds. Stan has not told us how much
molds for a 27 foot boat would costs. You need hull molds, deck molds,
various interior molds. Then what about a IMF mast. Is it planed to put
the R22 IMF mast on the yacht? That would make a puny main sail. So how
much for a new die to make a bigger mast to handle the sail you'll would
want? Then back to the design boards for the IMF innerds. Another award in
the making? See: http://www.manus.igus.com/testimonials.htm (page down
until you see 9.9 motor)

And then there is the labor of putting this all together. But that is the
next story.
