Bob N.

I am sorry to hear that you are not one of use. Is there any open water out
your window?

In regards to big lake sailing with the R22, I refer you to Ron Lipton of
Lake Michigan and Jerry Lowe of Lake Erie for guidance. They would be best
able to tell of sailing the R22 on big waters.

You have a contact on this list in Dan. In addition there used to be a
Rhodes Continental at the Burlington Docks. He used to dry sail his boat.
That is left it fully rigged in the parking lot and dunked it when he was
ready to sail.

The Rhodes 22 is not the Cape Dory 25. The Cape Dory 25 is a nautical boat
specifically designed for northeast coastal sailing. While very seaworthy,
the almost full keel design does not lend itself to quick response in
incremental changes of direction, hence the comment about the modified Cape
Dory by Bob Weber. This is why the fin keel abounds.

Sail plans have to be designed for each boat design to be effective. Just
putting an IMF on a sailboat does not guarantee that it will perform well.
Over the last few weeks comments on this forum have mentioned weight aloft
with IMF. A careful review of boats that have used both the standard mast
and the IMF will show that most often the IMF is shorter than the standard.

If you want IMF, make sure that the sail plan has been properly studied.
Just putting an IMF on any boat is not going to make you happy.

Here then is the Rhodes 22 with IMF. It has a proven track record. So do
you want an elegant nautical design or do you want to sail?

Furthermore, in wintertime, you can put your R22 on a trailer for winter
storage, or even tote it south, as distinguished from all the boatyards with
boats on stands in your area. In winter it is like a cemetery at your boat
yards with plastic covered boats as headstones.

There is a Rhodes 22 owner on the list who routinely offers a sail on his
boat for a nominal gratuity of a bottle of Mt. Gay Rum. Have you ever been
to South Carolina? Do you have cabin fever? Think of a trip down here as
therapy. Think of it as an elixir for white out.
