[Rhodes22-list] Mast Crane and DC Happy Hour

Dave, Hank,

Those are pix of Fandango I posted (?) some time ago. The block that the
crane attaches to has to be bolted because the stress is not only downward
but also longitudinally (aft) as the mast nears its vertical position. When
the mast is laying down on the stern crutch, the crane is upright and
vertical. When you raise the mast, you're cranking the winch line that's
attached to the bow cleat so the crane pivots downward and the stress on the
block changes from straight down, as you begin to raise, to a horizontal
stress, as you near the fully-raised mast. Thus the security of that little
block is critical.

I used to attach the aft lower shrouds to the crane but I popped for Stan's
kit that upgrades using a bail (bale?) on the mast and a dedicated line
connecting to the crane so the aft lowers can stay attached to their chain
plates--one less step in the process.
