Diane:

General Boat International is a big name and is little company. Rose is
president and sometimes has office help. She is also in charge of mailing
packages, small errands, answering the phone, etc…

If Stan is busy and she is out of her office, the phone calls go to the
answer machine. Rose usually is pretty good about getting back to callers
who leave a name and phone number that she can understand. It is best to
deal with Rose and tell her what you want and give her your name and phone
number.

Stan, the chief engineer and go for may answer the phone or you may talk to
him on the phone. His desk can have too many things on it and a request
shuffles to the bottom of the pile, so make sure Rose knows what you need
and has the contact information. Also, you can communicate your wants to
Rose by snail mail, thereby giving them a written copy of your request.
Stan and Rose both have a college education.

Rose is usually there from 8:00 until 4:00. Stan has much different hours.
As David has pointed out, this is their busy season. Stan has been known to
sleep over in his office. ( So has Rose, but more often she goes home) If
Stan has boats to get out the he might be found in the plant at 3:00 A.M.
going over what has to be done to each boat in the shop. He makes his list
and goes back to his office and types up the crews work assignments in
American Nautical English. At 7:30 A.M. he gives his crew of the day their
assignments. Sometimes he has to spend extra time translating each workers
assignment. One speaks English, others Romanian, others Spanish. Sometimes
he has to demonstrate what he wants done. Sometimes more than once.

So the best time to call is in the afternoon as David pointed out. Some
Saturdays are ok this time of year.

If you are ever in Edenton, North Carolina, a visit to the plant is in
order.

The hatch size has not changed since 1968, so I am sure if you want a new
one, General Boats can make you one. They also can make you a table and get
you a correct stand. Let me ask you the same question that I asked on this
same subject a couple of months ago. Did you look for the table in the
grooves above V berth? That is a standard hiding place for the table.

As you have seen from Mary Lou’s reply there are lady sailors on this forum.
However, one or two may have sunk.

Again, pictures of your boat and home port are in order.
