[Rhodes22-list] RE: Rhodes22-list Digest, Vol 1068, Issue 1

Hello everyone,

Mary and I have been eavesdropping (from the RTP area of NC) on this group
for quite a while because Stan suggested doing so. We are hoping to purchase
a 'recycled' R soon. Your discussion about the beauty of the red hulls
provoked this message.
The red hull is a true beauty. That is a color of our choice.
As I recall, Candy Apple Red is, in fact, a color from the auto world of the
50's & 60's. It is called candy apple red not only because of the shade of
red, but primarily because of the metal-flake appearance that gives it so
much "depth." Back then, it was a factor of sprayed on color, metal flake
and multiple coats of clear coat. With fiberglass, it is a factor of dye in
the lay-up of the 'glass.' Once and done under the gel coat. Therefore,
unless the hulls have this sprayed on attribute, they are a red, but not a
candy apple red. Beautiful, never-the-less!
But never mind that; keep up the great dialogue. We enjoy learning by
eavesdropping.

Lew

Elle, I visited the plant Sat. to look at my boat . . . it's red too. I
also
saw yours . . . it was the same color. But be it "candy apple", "fire
engine", or "cranberry", both boats were pretty fine.

Not too far . . . especially by boat. I'll be berthing my boat in St.
Mary's
County Maryland at the Naval Air Station, Pax River marina . . . it's about
3/4 of a mile from my office . . . I won't pick my boat up until July - -
can't wait. Curious about the name you chose . . . is it from Handel?
Reason I asked, I was considering that as a name for my boat but spelling it
"Water Musick" . . . Musick is my last name . . . but we are going with
"Moon Shadow", which is named after a horse my wife rode when we lived in
Wales. My middle daughter was pulling for "Anal Wind" but we ruled that out
for obvious reasons.

Point Lookout is probably equidistant for both of
us...a short day's sail at least from here....

We've been to Solomon's many times both via water &
land...a friend currently has his boat on the hard at
Spring Cove...

Watermusic is in memory of my husband, a musician
whose favorite genre was Baroque...and Handel was one
of his favorites.

Oddly enough, Watermusic will be delivered on the 20
month anniversary of his death.

Hmmm...

Rummy,

If labor showed up to work free, the pax airlines would still lose money, -
they'd just cut ticket prices for more market share. There's one that
doesn't play by the rules and is profitable, Southwest (the highest labor
cost airline left). The idea of the customer paying for fuel isn't so bad.
That is EXACTLY what UPS, my employer, and the other handful of players in
the supply chain logistics business do. If your product costs 4 cents to
produce you have to charge a nickel to make a profit. DUH! Your joke is
reality.

Since you are such a shutterbug, perhaps you'll pick up one
of these cameras for your first sail on your home waters!

Neat!

I'm going to do that!

I've already got the kites on board--sailing kites from sailboats is easy.

I've got some cameras.

All I need is time...

That is a great video. I wonder how he keeps the camera aimed so well at
the sailboat ... or maybe it's easier than it would seem. I guess it's a
lipstick-sized camera?

Here is another view of the Global Warning Issue that is not usually seen in
the mainstream media.

At last we have a mainstream debate.

quote:

In a polemical and thought-provoking documentary, film-maker Martin Durkin
argues that the theory of man-made global warming has become such a powerful
political force that other explanations for climate change are not being
properly aired.

The film brings together the arguments of leading scientists who disagree
with the prevailing consensus that a 'greenhouse effect' of carbon dioxide
released by human activity is the cause of rising global temperatures.

Instead the documentary highlights recent research that the effect of the
sun's radiation on the atmosphere may be a better explanation for the
regular swings of climate from ice ages to warm interglacial periods and
back again.

The film argues that the earth's climate is always changing, and that rapid
warmings and coolings took place long before the burning of fossil fuels. It
argues that the present single-minded focus on reducing carbon emissions not
only may have little impact on climate change, it may also have the
unintended consequence of stifling development in the third world,
prolonging endemic poverty and disease.

The film features an impressive roll-call of experts, including nine
professors experts in climatology, oceanography, meteorology,
environmental science, biogeography and paleoclimatology from such
reputable institutions as MIT, NASA, the International Arctic Research
Centre, the Institut Pasteur, the Danish National Space Center and the
Universities of London, Ottawa, Jerusalem, Winnipeg, Alabama and Virginia.

The film hears from scientists who dispute the link between carbon dioxide
levels and global temperatures.

'The ice core record goes to the very heart of the problem we have,' says
Tim Ball, Climatologist and Prof Emeritus of Geography at the University of
Winnipeg in the documentary. 'They said if CO2 increases in the atmosphere,
as a greenhouse gas, then the temperature will go up'.

In fact, the experts in the film argue that increased CO2 levels are
actually a result of temperature rises, not their cause, and that this
alternate view is rarely heard. 'So the fundamental assumption, the most
fundamental assumption of the whole theory of climate change due to humans,
is shown to be wrong.'

'I've often heard it said that there is a consensus of thousands of
scientists on the global warming issue, that humans are causing a
catastrophic change to the climate system,' says John Christy, Professor and
Director of the Earth System Science Center, NSSTC University of Alabama.
'Well I am one scientist, and there are many, that simply think that is not
true.'

Joe:

Congratulations on a positive sailing related post. Now tell us what kind
of boat that is?
