[Rhodes22-list] Torqeedo electric outboards

Robert,

I've been following them for a while.

The only way you can make them work is by creating a hybrid system --
hook a small honda 4 cycle generator to 24 volts of battery (could be 2
12s on our boat hooked together serially) and run the generator whenever
you run the Torqeedo.

I've got a Camry hybrid, and I just love it. But it's got a 140 hp gas
engine, 650 pounds of battery, a 245V custom designed electrical system,
a 40 hp electrical motor, and it still can only go short distances on
electric power alone. My Camry also has an independent 12V system, with
the ability to jump it the old fashioned way. If the 12V dies, the car
don't start.

Also, the cost of the Camry is essentially the same as the cost of the
Lexus on which it's based.

I'll watch the Torqeedo, and let someone else get the bugs out.
