[Rhodes22-list] Next photo mystery - VHF antenna?

Hi folks,

I know nothing about VHF radio, other than there appears to be one on 
board the boat I just bought.  Up on the masthead there is a steel 
cylinder with "Metz" printed on it which is attached to some coax 
cable running down inside the mast.  There's a connector for that on 
the cabin top.

Looking at the attached picture, isn't there supposed to be something 
more "antenna-like" attached to the top of the Metz cylinder?  Is 
something missing or is this how it's supposed to look?
