Rummy:
Yes. Just raised the mast about 3 weeks ago. Glanced up while sailing and thought I saw a bend or distortion in the foil up high -- near the mast connection. I unfurled the genoa back at dock and there was a twist or distortion about 2 feet down. I tried to raise or lower the genoa with the halyards but the bend in the foil apparently is pinching too much to permit movement. I thought of lowering mast --- but --- I've been waiting all winter to get back on the water! Sailed Saturday and noticed--for whatever reason---when I refurled the genoa that the CDI didn't wrap the jib sheets around the genoa like they had been before the sail began. Back at dock I again unfurled the genoa to examine the foil and it appears there is second bend or distortion about 1 foot below the one I had earlier seen making me think I may have a problem with the forestay connection at the top of the mast that is supposed to spin during the furling or that partially furling the genoa in
strong winds (which I needed to do last Saturday) is creating too much pressure at the location of the last turn of the genoa on the forestay. Is there something about the upper connection I'm not understanding. My older Catalina's forestay connection spun freely as you furled in both directions without any limitations which confuses me on why this is occurring on this boat?

  Rex,
Sounds like you have the CDI furler. You can simply bend it back into shape
or try tensioning the backstay to get the bend out of it so you can raise or
lower your sails. Is this a recent problem?
