[Rhodes22-list] Laz leakage another reply to Rory

Rory,

What do you plan to use for fittings and hose? I am considering the same
project, because my current (1/2"?) holes frequently clog with Birch twigs,
leaves, and such. I found some surface mount fittings (vs. flush mount) but
I am concerned about the room available in the corners of seats being too
small to accept the fitting without too much water being left standing.

The other day we had a deluge and I had 6 inches of water in the lazzerette
and a couple inches in the bilge. It took me about 45 minutes to clear it
all out. I checked the next day and the lazz was dry and the bilge was still
seaping some water (from the lazz?, I checked all the hatches and other
cabin related areas and found them to be dry and tight). Today we had
another brief but very hard rain. I just checked and found a pint or so in
the lazz.

I have had my boat set on the trailer with the bow up and now with the bow
down (cockpit seats are nearly level). I think with with bow up, there was
so much water flowing to the stern that the drains didn't have a chance.
With the cockpit seats closer to level, I am hoping to give the drains a
little extra time to flush.

I too am looking at some form of gasket material around the lazz hatch. Let
me know what you come up with.

Thanks,

Todd Z.
