Compared to a Rhode22, your 9.2C is going to be extremely stable.  Based on
the attached article and ballast (9,800 lb. boat with 4,000 lbs. of
ballast), she might be a little more tender than other cruisers her size. 
If that's the case, Hank's lever analogy will have more of an effect. 
Considering that you are decreasing sail size, it may not have much of an
effect at all, and you aren't increasing sail area at the top of your mast;
as opposed to our Rhodes when we raise the boom.

Like everything else on a boat it's a comprimise.  The biggest danger on a
sailboat is drowning.  The second biggest danger is getting hit in the head
with the boom (often followed by drowning).  Raising the boom seems like a
reasonable comprimise.
