Elle -

You might appreciate the attached photo(s) of the Italian
Training ship in the harbor of Kotor, Montenegro. To my
eye, she was the most beautiful object in all of Montenegro.

In deference to those who have limited bandwidth, there are
two pix. The one marked "redux" is only 266 KB. The other
one (819 KB) is larger and has better detail and color.
You pays your money and you takes your chances.

When you look closely, especially on the more detailed pic,
you can see the bewildering array of lines, halyards,
sheets, shrouds, stays, etc. that those sailors have to
learn. Further, as she is a wooden ship, the maintenance
on her is orders of magnitude more demanding than on the
steel Eagle, our Coast Guard training ship. Nevertheless,
I saw no flaw in her finish.

Hats off to the Italians for preserving and actually
sailing such a beauty!
