I do not have experience with the 175, but I have a North Sails 150 on FF-2
furler, bought new from GB.

I would guess that winds in Salem/Beverly MA area are not frequently 20 kts,
but are often 12-15, except lately, when we have not seen 10 on any weekend
I have been able to get out.

Works fine for me in all conditions, but I don't race, and am seldom in a
hurry, since I am already where I want to be when I get to the boat.

Bob - I would second Jim's advice - we sail at the South shore of New Jersey
and two years ago replaced our original 170 with a 140, as part of Stan's
refit of Sunday Morning. We also replaced the original main (furling) with the
battened (furling) main. The combination provides all the power we need and
the 140 is far better for our conditions than the 170 was. I still often
reef to about a 110 for upwind work, using the inner sheeting - then roll out
all the way for beam or broad reach. I have also rigged sheeting blocks on
the forward pushpit rails, so have three sheeting options - side of the
cabintop (inner), the "outside" blocks on the track and then the pushpit blocks (
in combination if needed for downwind angles with a whisker pole).
