Dave,
I ran a cable from the battery and mounted it to a buss bar inside the  
cabinet in the galley. I then connected the VHF and stereo to it. They are  the 
only things on that cable.  I have a dual battery system. One battery  for the 
radios and cabin lights and one battery for the running and navigation  lights. 
It's worked well for many years now. No static or other problems. As  everyone 
on the list knows, I keep my gas can in the lazzerette so the  connections to 
the speakers are soldered on eliminating any chance of a spark.  The VHF and 
stereo both have inline fuses.
