Steve,

You have not given us details to make a good recommendation. Why is Stan
offering the boat not recycled? Is it a brokerage?

You have not given us your knowledge of sailboats. Any used sailboat,
regardless of costs, requires both a level of knowledge of sailboats
maintenance and a degree of handiman ability. Also needed are adequate
tools and a place to work.

That is why Stan has the recycled program. He has a great deal of knowledge
,the place and equipment to effect a quality rebuild or refurbish.

If he is selling a used boat not recycled and not a brokerage, then he has
already determined the expenses involved. If you have a shop and expertize,
it has been shown in the past to be a worthy venture. Ask Lou Rosenberg (a
member of this forum and expert in boat rebuilding) how much is involved in
putting a used boat onto the water.

A recycled boat or even semi-recycled is a good value if do not have a place
or the expertize to refurbish a boat. Tell us what is the year and
condition of the used boat he is offering. If the boat is in Edenton, has
he inspected it and ask why he has chosen not to recycle it. Ask the last
time it was sailed.

What I am saying is that the boat may or may not be a good value. You need
to tell us who are familiar with the boat a whole lot more information to be
able to offer valid or good opinions.

If it is a test sail that you want, come down to Lake Hartwell, South
Carolina, and let Captain Rummy give you a demo sail. He needs a good
excuse to get out of rebuilding his house and get on the water in a
sailboat. He has gotten a fancy stinkpot and is losing his sailing skills.
It was another beautiful day on the lake in a fresh breeze.
