Burt,

There are many Rhodes with spinnaker sails. Most are symetrical. Years
ago, Anne M, posted a picture of her using a symetical spinnaker without
poles on Kentucky Lake. The late Roger P. used to race using spinnakers.

Other names for Spinnakers are Asymetrical Spinnakers, UPS, drifters,
reachers, and there are more.

Consider becoming the current expert. Here is how:

Sailmaker's Apprentice by Emiliano Marino is referred to often on other
sailing lists. Table of contents indicates a chapter on making sails.

The Art and Science of Sails by Tom Whidden (President of North Sails) tells
you about all kind of sail design and reasons therefore, but does not tell
how to make them.

Sailpower by Peter Nielson, a pricipal writer for Sail Magazine is a great
discussion of all aspects of sails, but again does not tell how to make
them.

Here is your opportunity to be the Rhodes Sailmaker... And I would be wrong
not to mention that one Stanley Spitzer knows a great deals about sails.
Think IMF... a Spitzer controlled design. Maybe take your material and
sewing machine and set up shop at the Spitzer Sail Loft in Edenton, NC. You
could not get better advice.
