Michael,

I have seen two stroke boat motors that were made prior to WW II run! So if
you take care of an antique boat motor it make may go to your heirs. Just
tell them it will be theirs.

I had an older two stroke that Stan put on my boat when I got if from
'recycle'. It ran but sometimes was tricky to start. Because of complaints
from guest, I got rid of it and got a new Tohatsu Two Stroke as Captain
Rummy recommended.

As you are aware the Green God Gore's friends and acolytes ran off the two
stroke motors. But not in the bigger engines which with high tech ignition
are more environmentally friendly than four strokes. Yamaha has announced
that it has now got two stroke boat motors down to less than 40 h.p. That
is still too big for us, but they are rumored to be working on smaller two
stroke boat motors and will discretely introduce them as they clear U. S.
environmental test. It is rumored that the Yamaha 2010 model year will
feature two stroke motors down to 10 H.P.

Why are they doing this? Because two stoke motors have been proven more
reliable for boat motors than four stroke motors. And California has backed
off its band on two stroke boat motors. They have approved the new Yamaha
two stoke motors for use on restricted lakes. In fact California law
enforcement officers are said to be using the new two stroke motors.

So, when you get as old as Stan, you may still be using the same motor one
way or another.
