Yeah I just went to the DEFENDER site and saw they have a new  
Torquedo 20+ extendable shaft
for $2699.  It supposedly has the equivalent torque of a 6hp.   
24volt, meaning you would most likely run two
12v in series.  Since I just got the Tohatsu I would wait a few years  
too and hopefully the market will create better motors at
less cost and possibly higher torque.
