[Rhodes22-list] bill?

Three things;

1) The Selective Service System still exists and 18 year old men are still
required to register (although no one has actually been drafted since the
early '70s).

2) The Defense Department explored requiring women to register in 2004, but
the idea was shelved (for obvious reasons).

3) The whole "when did WWII actually start" discussion is irrelevant to the
reason the issue was raised here. I understood someone remarked that the
Iraq War has lasted longer than WWII to make the point that the public had
been very patient with the incompetent leadership of Rumsfeld et al., in the
face of someone else commenting that the public seems to require victory in
an unreasonably short time (the length of a movie as I recall). Well, the US
INVOLVEMENT in WWII was a heck of alot shorter than our adventure in Iraq
(the "Flying Tigers" notwithstanding) and the US public has been more than
patient in my view, especially when the pretexts for war were discredited
long ago.
