[Rhodes22-list] Who's List Is It?

John,

If you proceed we've got a real problem.

Rhodes22 may have been registered by Michael, but he represented it to
me as work for hire, and he let it be known on the list that he received
payment in kind for his services.

"Rhodes" is a trademark. Only General Boats holds the license for
"Rhodes22". Michael can't use trademarks he doesn't own. He can't use
copyrighted material he doesn't own. And he can't either use or
transfer email addresses without permission.

If you guys want to start a sailing list with yourselves as the great
poobahs, go right ahead. I'm sure many will join you. But why must you
simultaneously destroy the existing list? Explain to me exactly how
this destructive act cures the "tone".

We can muddle along just fine without you, as we have for many years.
We think we're sometimes funny, sometimes crude, sometimes helpful, and
often annoying. What do you accomplish by taking or destroying what
we've built?

Start your own list. Build it. Police it. Promote it.

Try posting a privacy policy this time--and clearly state who owns the
list. I haven't checked lately, but I do believe both of these things
are required. What do you think?

Now, we can work this all out together, or you and "my way or the
highway" can escalate this silliness into a real problem.

Your choice.
