Bubblers can keep small areas of backyard ponds ice free even here in the
frozen north. 

I had a cockpit cover made several years ago and I love it.  It keeps 
the cockpit
relatively clean and eliminates a lot of the water that made it's way to 
the bilge.
I am on a mooring so I can't hose down the boat regularly and the cover 
also
keeps the spiders and other lower life forms more under control.
