Hi Matt,
Welcome aboard!

A couple of quick comments. Here is a link to a US Coast Guard
boating safety site:
http://uscgboating.org/safety/safety.htm

If you are stopped by the Coast Guard or your local on-water
authorities you will be asked to demonstrate that you have the
required safety equipment. It appears that inflatable PFDs may not
satisfy the requirements for kids PFDs. You may want to check
further. It used to be that inflatable PFDs only counted toward the
boats required number of PFDs if they were being worn at the time of
the inspection. Not sure if that is still true but if so you will
want to have regular PFDs aboard as well to meet the requirement for
one pfd for each person aboard.

As far as windvanes go we like them but they do seem to break from
birds trying to perch on them. We went to a Spar-fly and have had
less breakage than with the Wind-exs however an antenna mount or the
newer Wind-ex design with a spike might improve things.

Best,
Mary Lou
