Ron:

I have an understanding perspective on your opinion.  My son also works for
a semi governmental lab.  Before the oil cost issues and Green God Gore's
rampage, his lab had difficulty maintaining funding.  Now they are a
controlling agency on alternative energy research.  It is the ‘Ebb and Flow’
of politics and pure research funding.

So, it looks like at the very least you are going to get a weeks vacation? 
Maybe a visit down south will keep your spirits alive, just do not do a
Roger on us.   However, you might give him a call or visit to discuss the
situation.  

Have you considered going back to school for your doctorate?  You have
already told us that you do not want to run for public office. 
 
Again, heads up and keep us informed.
