I just had another thought. The time that I laid Rum Runner over on her side
while under sail, water did come into the cabin over the deck. With the pop
top in the lower position, it could allow water to enter the cabin. With 80
mph winds, it could also just blow in. The pop top isn't sealed tight to the
deck.

Andrew,
Speaking from first hand experience, I can assure you that when laid over,
the sink drain is indeed in the water. I do not know if it would allow water

into the cabin because it would depend on the height of the sink at that
angle.
My guess would be that the water came in from the hull/deck joint. It's an
easy thing to fix. Once again, it's been covered many times on this list,
but
if you can't find anything in the archives, I will be glad to repeat the
instructions I got from Sir Stanley.
Another source of water could be your water tank. It has an air valve that
could let water out when laid over. Do you know if the water in the bilge
was
salt water or fresh water?????

Backflow through the sink is possible as it is open, but the increased
flotation when the flare is in the water would probably still keep the drain
at some height above the water.
