Mike
The Tohatsu 8 comes with Electric and Manual start so if the battery is deed you don't have to row . BTW I'm not sure how hard it is to start Manual Just push the button and it comes life. I know what you are saying about the gear shift on the Yamaha it is slick. One thing I have found on the Rhodes page was a Power Tiller that you may want to look at . It can be mounted on your Tiller and it hooks up to just about any Out Board Engine. .

Bill,

Actually I was trying to get Bill McCready's attention - apparently he
recently got or is getting a Yamaha 8. But, thanks for the encouraging
report on 8 hp being "enough". We do make it to Toledo now and again; my
Admiral's sister lives in Sylvania, NW of Toledo, darn near in Michigan
actually. I'll be sure to get in touch next time we're headed that way. I
also looked at the Tohatsu 8 and 9.9 outboards. They are quite a bit less
expensive even with the electric start, but the set up on the Yamaha 8 hp is
a strong selling point. Yamaha has the gearshift located right behind the
twist grip throttle on the tiller and Stan says the tiller is pretty long so
the controls fall easily to hand. I know what you mean about electric
start, but the Admiral really doesn't like pull start outboards. And I do
want her to be able to start it without me, just in case.
