The title of this addendum speaks for itself. Not sailing related.

"Won't Olympians 0n Viagra Stick out ?" by Jim Shea 7/12/08

Viagra has not been banned by the Int"l Olympic committee, I'm thinking it
should be.

My concern is not the blood-oxygen connection so much on many events and
we're

talking about a lot more than the pole vault.

Swimming comes immediately to mind. Forget the new swimsuits giving
participants

an upper hand. What should be infinitely more worrisome is the advantage a
personal

keel could provide male swimmers.

And as for the backstroke, couldn't raised sails result in wind becoming a
factor? Might

this alter the sport in the future requiring competitors to not only swim
but tack and jibe

as well?

Track & field competitions could also face major change.

How many sprints are ultimately decided by a photo finish, where it is not
uncommon to

win by a nose. But what if the first thing across the line isn't a nose?
You want to explain

that to the kids?

What about the distance races, where athletes traditionally jostle for
position in tight packs.

You have to assume that Viagra would tend to spread out the field.

And let's not forget the relays. This is where team members are required to
blindly reach

back and grab for the baton while running at top speed, Yo!

It doesn't stop there.

Imagine the effect Viagra-upped athletes could have on such sports as judo,
wrestling, cycling,

equestrian or fencing. Oh, and gymnastics, where new meaning might be given
to the expression

"stick the landing."
