Esther,
Hope you can follow all of this. I'm assuming you have a standard main
and a set up somewhat similar to mine. I have a 1976 so we should be
similar. Look at the photos and see if this helps.

In the photo with the name that includes the name "traveler upper", you
see the two rear stays and how the rear stay adjuster is rigged. I've
since learned that you tighten the rear stays by pulling on the line
which should run alongside the starboard rear stay to a cleat that's
located on the starboard stern, right near the swim ladder. Please
ignore the bungi cords in the photo, they have been replaced by a
topping lift (a line that runs from the top of the mast that holds the
rear of the boom up).

The photo that includes the name "traveler middle" shows how the rear of
the boom attaches to the rear "traveler". The newer boats have an
actual traveler bar, mine has a traveler wire(?), which is just a metal
cable that runs between the two rear chain plates. Again, ignore the
bungi coards.

The "traveler lower" shows again the boom to "traveler" attachment. The
back stay adjuster (the line twisted about the stay) again, should go to
the cleat on the stern of the boat.

Finally, the photo "riggingtraveler" (which is not my boat but I have
this photo from somewhere), shows the topping lift attached to the rear
of the boom, the aft cam and block assembly and how it is rigged. Note
the traveler bar in this photo, which my boat does not have.

Hope this helps. - rob

Hank,

Thanks so much for the reply, but there was no picture.? Also, the
concern is how the aft portion of the boom attaches to the boat.

Thanks for your help!

Esther,

Both the boom and the pop top attach to sliders that are in the grove on
the
mast. Here is a picture of the two sliders (or cars as some call them)
on
the mast. The bottom one shows the bracket to attach to the front of
the
pop top. The top one is a bit cutoff in the picture or you would see
the
attachment for the boom.

If you do not have these cars, contact Stan Spitzer at stan at rhodes22.com
and
maybe he has some old ones he would be willing to donate to the sea
scouts.

Hank
