Ed,

I really enjoyed WE Williams' article. Simple, interesting, well presented
stuff.

In contrast, the article that you cite regarding wart removal is poor. The
study was not able to be reproduced by other researchers. The "duct tape"
(or anaerobic bandage) technique may work fairly well when combined with a
standard OTC wart removal product (like CompoundW) over a very long period.
These techniques require continuous (24 hour) deprivation of contact with
the air for the wart for as many as six months! In addition, they are
typically only recommended for identified plantar warts. Unless you are
well versed in identification of warty growths, you should seek medical
attention, since some growths, malignant ones especially, may look like
simple warts in their early stages.

An additional caution is that even a simple plantar wart may become infected
or spread when using this technique. Since plantar warts are highly
vascularized, the infection can become serious in days or a week. Also, due
to the significant blood supply, one must be very careful when removing them
mechanically (cutting or abrading as in the study) since they will bleed
profusely.

Lastly, this technique (or even the OTC freeze sprays) should not be used
for warts on the face, unless scarring or eye injury is not a concern.

Ed, please don't handle any frogs ...
