Rummy,
Right again. That rudder can point forward by about another 10 degrees.
Even at that vertical rudder position I find the tiller to be still pleasurably light, a testimony to the good design.

Look at the attached photo. I might be wrong, but it appears as though the
rudder can go forward more than it currently is.

You need to tell me more about correct rudder adjustment. Stan pointed out
to me that if the rudder is correctly deployed you can steer the boat with
your finger. I understand correct deployment to mean down beyond vertical,
where the rudder is pointing towards to the front or bow of the boat.
That's
overstating it, but you get the picture.
Is there some other rudder adjustment that I / we new-bees need to know
about?

position of the rudder, I came across the photo of your boat. Not only did

have the topping lift still engaged, but your rudder is not in the forward
position. :)

I dump wind first from main. Then I will head up if need be,
assuming I am on a close reach.
constant gusting I would let the traveler go to leeward to assist in
dumping wind.
