Reprint of Stan's Post:

""As long as I am sitting here not feeling like working I'll tell you what
to do: we went "over there" to save us here but if we die, there is nothing
to save so what the hell. Pull out of both wars today. Close all overseas
bases and save their costs, today stop all foreign aid - when you are dying,
charity begins at home.

Stop all corporate taxes now - they are only another source of taxing
citizens in the form of a disguised sales tax

Do away with all other taxes accept the income tax and tax the hell out of
those who won't feel it, and except the inheritance tax; raise it to 100%
for those who do not deserve that free ride.

Switch over from our morphed socialist country to a true capitalist country
where the country is in business to make money (so there is no need for an
income tax) by owning the stock of energy, transportation, communication,
health (stem cell and medicine) banking and others I will think of, BUT
where that ownership is in the form of competing companies with CEOs whose
job pay and length is tied into their success with their divisions. (You
can get the best business talent to take these jobs without breaking the
divisions coffers if we pay them more than the president and less than the
current Wall Street robber barons) print money and develop energy, not in 10
years, but today.

Subsidize the space industry, the car industry, the medical industry, the
health industry (prevention is so much cheaper), the educational industry (I
can't believe how low we rate in the current world)..... I will think of
others like the vertical computerized farming industry that on one acre can
turn out 20 acres or more of produce and get back into the export business -
all sorts of export from body parts to plane parts even sailboats

Then, when we are back on our feet, go back to our old dumb ways.

Stan, thank you for your post. It will enliven this forum for days.

Wally, I am optimistic that the sun will routinely rise in the east. Stan’s
daughter edited a book by Bob Wiedemer. He refers to business cycles as
bubbles. What he really speaks to are causes of business cycles. He writes
of the housing bubble. The current debate is part of the bursting of the
housing bubble that has been developing since the 1970’s, specifically,
people buying more house than they could afford.

I live in an inner city neighborhood and initially watched my friends and
associates move to the Eastside with houses of many bedrooms and more baths.
Then I watched as many divorced, etc. I also watched the way the houses
were built change.

The picture of Galveston with the one house left is what I anticipated from
the way the new big houses were built. They lacked quality construction.
Yet people paid top dollar for such houses. All over this country there are
houses built the same way. And they almost all have big mortgages. And one
good storm wipes them away.

Stan’s rant covers many points. I would like to point out that he mixes
socialism as a method to fix capitalism. The problem of where we are and
how to proceed has as it core determining true value, who determines true
value. Transparency of the determination of real value is a critical issue.

I doubt that either national Presidential candidate is capable and qualified
to make such judgments. So I look to their background to make a judgment
as to how they would sit as arbiter. You have to wade thru much to
ascertain meaningful facts.

You have to sort thru comments about and by Barack is for hints of the
truth. It is true the guy has been closely associated with people who
espoused Marxism and a hate America attitude. Yet people accept what he
says because he is smooth and his sounds feel good. The media says if it
sounds good it must be?

People accepted Hitler because he sounded good to them. Just like Barack,
he espoused socialism. Then it was called National Socialism. Today it is
feel good socialism. People need to make the effort to analyze the past and
compare it to now they would better understand what he says. Where did
following other socialist in history take mankind?

Why analyze Barack's relationships with Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright?
Because it shows his reasoning parallels theirs. It was fundamentally 'Hate
America’; hate the system that created the highest standard of living in the
world and envy of all. His mantra is change.

Alternatively, we have a guy who suffered greatly for America, his country.
We have a track record of real sacrafice, reasonable honesty, and accept
information to change his positions.

We may be facing a depression that exceeds the ‘Great Depression’. Yet it
is America that has shown the way out of morass of evil in recent past. It
was America who stopped Hitler. It is America who confronts the hegemony of
Communism. Will America survive the current economic firestorm? We have a
track record that says yes.

Socialism, Marxisms of all sorts have left bigger messes. And often killed
many.

Ah, again, thank you Stan,
Ed K
