[Rhodes22-list] a Yamaha mechanic in the house?

Joe--

I had the EXACT same problem with my Yamaha 8 four stroke--very
frustrating. I spent about a month driving around at idle speed, which is
not too bad if you are just using it for docking.

After much research, I found that any tiny bit of debris can block the fuel
passage in the carb and cause this symptom. In my case, it required a
mechanic to unclog it, but now, with more attention to clean, non-ethanol
gas, it has been fine since. It could be something simpler, but that was
my experience.

Let us know what worked when you find a solution

My 1998 Yamaha 9.9hp outboard has taken a dislike to running much above
idle. It starts up fine. Runs mostly okay at idle and slightly above
idle, but stalls and quits when I try to advance the throttle. I pulled
the spark plugs and they are dark and a little wet. I've got some plugs
on order. I've been frustrated in trying to find someone in the
Knoxville, TN area who will work on Yamaha engines. If anybody knows of
a local mechanic, let me know. If anyone has any helpful hints also let
me know. Time is of the essense as we were planning a week long sailing
trip in a couple of weeks. I am an okay mechanic except I don't relish
opening up the carburator. I'll be glad to search the list if someone
will refresh my memory on how to do so.
Thanks,
Joe
