I keep our boat on Torch Lake MI, but, have loaded up the trailer and
sailed to Mac. Island & North Channel. The straits of Mackinaw can be
difficult with ferry traffic, wind & current. Getting to the island if
fun. Expect to be the smallest boat in the marina. We had to climb up
three steps on the ladder from 0ur boat to the dock. Another boat came
in later in the evening and had to lower a gang plank down to the dock.
Our mast was just a little taller than the freeboard rail. The North
Channel is GREAT. A lot of protection from bad weather, several ports
of safe harbor and Mother Nature at her best. I have sailed out to
Beaver Island but on an O'Day-28. Even with the bigger boat the ride
was lumpy & long. The Island was nice with wonderful people. Once
again, there is a presence of ferries with big wakes and little regard
for a sailboat. Good Luck, Jim J
