[Rhodes22-list] main unfurlling problem

Richard,

If it furls into the mast without a problem and it looks it's jamming when
you try to pull it back out because the sail is doubled over inside, then
you may be able to fix the problem by changing your furling technique. I've
jammed my sail enough to know that it's me and not the boat.

When you furl the sail back into the mast, keep tension on the sail with the
downhaul. Slowly pull the sail back in a couple of a feet at a time while
constantly looking to see if the sail is doubling over. If you can't get
the sail in the mast without it doubling over, maybe the sail has lost its
shape and is too baggy to smoothly go into the mast. I don't actually know
if this is possible but it sounds good.

When pulling the sail out, I use Mary Lou's advice and set the topping lift
so the boom is just a hair below horizontal. Seems to help.

Good luck!
