[Rhodes22-list] Galley Storage

Chris,

Visited the boat yesterday for the first time since the snow melted. I had
mentioned previously that I don't get much condensation. Well I do now.
The interior was soaked. The inside of the poptop was dripping wet and it
felt like I could wring water out of the cushions. I could blame it on the
blanket of snow and other environmental conditions, but I just think I need
to air her out with more sailing.

Took pictures of my storage under the galley. It made me realize that 90%
of the junk on my boat I've never used and the other 10% I rarely use.
Cockpit cushions, pillows, and PFDs take up most of the space. I guess it's
better than storing it all in the garage.

Had I to do it all over again, I would purchase all air-tight clear
containers to fit snugly under the galley, behind the sliding doors at the
back of the counter, and in the drawer underneath the step. The containers
are easy to find in any size and they keep small things neat, organized and
dry--which is especially important for anything that corrodes (like tools).

For what it's worth, here's my neatly organized junk:

I have researched the archives and have not found much regarding options for
storage below the galley. I have no shelving and used two plastic
containers last season but would like to implement a better system to
maximize space and accessibility. I don't want to put in permananent fixed
shelving rather I am hoping to find some removable containers/shelves that
would fit the space. Enclosed is a plan and elevation sketch I prepared too
scale along with a second sketch that suggests two staking baskets and a
free standing shelf on top of which might sit a small trash container. I
would be interested to know what sytems others have employed and what you
think of my suggested layout.
