Bob!!!!
PLEASE don't "go back to where you came from"!!! What a well thought
out, insightful, and (I believe) totally accurate post. You nailed it!!

As the years progressed and the Iraq war started it became almost a "Bush-bashing" list and again I never participated but was frankly amazed at how leftist the list tone was. I raely participated in this conversation because a couple of times I did I was shouted down (and yes, I can give you specific instances). Gradually over the years there seemed to be more "diverse" (read: conservative) opinions showing up and the debate became much more of a debate and much less people just agreeing with one another. As this change took place the posts also (and maybe naturally) became more passionate and sometimes heated. It seems to me that the viewpoints on this list have gone from being 90/10 to more like 50/50 and it was when that happened that the intensity increased and people began calling for more civility. This is very much the same as the so-called mainstream media today. As long as they control the conversation, then all is well. But when Fox and talk radio introduces (yes, that's right, introduces) another viewpoint they try as hard as possible to first ignore, then discredit them and call them "mean-spirited". Just like how Ann Coulter is despised and banned from certain networks but Michael Moore is on TV every time he makes a new movie. My point is that in my humble opinion this is the same thing that has happened on this list because it is much more "civil" and acceptable to have only one viewpoint, as long as it is left-leaning-just like in the mainstream media today.
