Wally,

You might want to look into a Hennessy

These are made so you lie somewhat off center to the centerline of the 
hammock and thus are able to lie more or less flat vs the normal banana 
shaped position of a normal hammock. They also come with bug and rain 
protection built in. These might be easier to get into since you enter 
them from the bottom.

We have 2. Haven't tried them on a boat yet, though the thought had 
crossed my mind.
