[Rhodes22-list] Steaming light plug

Thanks Mary Lou. I do recall this posting before.

I guess what I have is an anchor light as it's an all around white light
at the masthead since it does not appear to be directional in nature.

I believe I'm OK as I look like Figure 2. - Rob

Masthead light is a generic term for a light at the masthead. It
could be a combination steaming light, anchor light. It could be
(although unlikely on our R22s, a combination navigation light with
red, green and white stern light in one light, sometimes with an all
around anchor light or forward steaming light on top.

A steaming light is a white light shining forward required when
navigating at night when under power.

An anchor light is an all around white light visible to 2 miles (if I
recall correctly). It can be at any height where visible - it does
not have to be at the masthead.

There are exceptions to the rules for navigation lights for smaller
boats.

The Coast Guard has a summary of nav light rules here:
http://www.uscgboating.org/SAFETY/fedreqs/equ_nav.htm

Right now our masthead anchor light is flipping the breaker. It
tested fine earlier in the year but we must have pinched, stretched
or nicked a wire when doing the work on the halyard restrainer.
Fortunately our steaming light is still working and we have an old
not quite Coast Guard legal but it will do in a pinch battery powered
anchor light that we can raise on a halyard.
