  the tiller come to us pre-finished - I suppose they use some sort of synthetic varnish - some of the List folks have re-finished theirs.

  New boats have no other wood on them.  On older boats that had any wood we usually just oiled them with linseed or teak oils.

  Sliding hatch tracks are now made of a plastic that is supposed to be able to handle UV:  $150 the pair with fasteners and plugs to cover the fastener holes (since this style is now connected from the underside of the pop top)

  The cabin doors are now made of acrylic with two large stainless steel hinges and a stainless steel handle and a plastic socket section for the leg attachment and are beautiful and costly at $350

  if you are referring to the cabin top plastic hatches - these can be nicely refinished with a plastic spray paint like "fusion"{

    My tiller and the companionway hatch are geting a bit tired looking.    The hatch has developed a sun-bleached blotchy look.  The coating has faded in spots but is not peeling like I would expect a failed varnish.  The original finish could be a varnish or synthetic.  



    The tiller looks different, it seems to have a very thick coating that has turned kind of cloudy overall.  It is also not peeling.  



    It would help to know what you used to finish these areas on my '85 that you recycled in 2003.



    The interior wood is holding up well with a bit of cleaning and polish.



    A question for later.  How much would you charge for a replacement white plastic companionway hatch?
