JD, Alex, Yaron, Gary and other new Rhodies,

Welcome! If you're like most of us, the more you sail your Rhodes the more
you'll realize you made the right choice. I wonder if we'll see more new
owners as a result of SailboatOwners.com's survey. Stan couldn't buy
publicity like that, although he earned it in decades of smart boat
building.

As for single-handled sailing, I can't imagine an easier boat of that size.
It's small enough that you can still manhandle it in and out of slips if
need be. The furling sails and locking tiller set it apart from most boats.
Many boats have controls in the cockpit, but few of them are set-up for such
ease of handling in a large open cockpit. With the poptop open you can
re-run Genoa sheets and deploy whisker poles without the need of crew
members. I never find the need to go forward.

The biggest learning curve I experienced as a new single-handler was furling
in sails in high winds. You can check the archives for many tips. Use your
motor to face into the wind to take tension off of the sails. Use your
Genoa sheets and mainsail outhaul to provide light tension on the sails.
Use proper body mechanics to furl the sails in. Like everything else it
gets riducuously easy with practice.

Good luck and welcome to the group!
