[Rhodes22-list] Lotsa rain & wind

Hi, Mike,
thanks for the good wishes...nasty today...winds not as high but the rain maintains...good day to be inside....
Actually the intent of the RPA is to avoid erosion...people would buy waterfront property and then remove all the trees..erosion would result, necessitating the addition of bulkheads and riprap, and you'd see nothing but houses from the water.
Now, the houses have to be 100' back...and the shoreline is much prettier.....
the prime waterfront property now is any old house, falling down is better...the old structure can be razed and a new one built on the footprint....but anything not on the old footprint has to be behind the 100' (garages, etc..)

Hi Elle,

Hope you're staying relatively dry.  The rains and winds have hit NY.  They
have been calling it a Nor'Ida here.  50-60 mph wind driven heavy rain,
sometimes horizontal!

Although I support the intent, the RPA sounds like a bit too much government
for me.  If a tree needs to go, I shouldn't need to go to the Supreme Court
for permission.

Rummy, Good suggestion...however, the 100' Rural Protection Act (RPA)
dictates that no trees w/diameter in excess of 6" w/in 100' of the Bay may
be cut down...that would be the entire Northern Neck...anyhow, it's leaves
blowing around that land in the cockpit...there are no trees near my boat.
Gives me a reason to go doen to the dock every day...;^)

Elle,
We had two days of rain and wind from the remnants of Ida. All total we
received three inches of rain. Fortunately that means that Lake Hartwell is
now above what is considered full pool and the walkway to my dock is pa
rtially submerged. About your leaf problem, cut down the damn trees.

This storm is making itself known down here on the lower Potomac....winds
are increasing...watching the water come into the creek as it should be
going out right now causes me some concern.....Mary Lou...is much water
being
pushed up your way??
High tide here was @ 4 hrs ago..and the tide is now @ 12" higher than it
was then.....and the water is just rolling in ...whitecaps.....Luckily my
R22 is floating nicely....altho' I had to step up about 18" to board, when
usually I have to step down about the same amount.
The biggest issue I'm having is the leaves in the scuppers. When the
leaves are not all off the trees , that cockpit is a leaf magnet. In the
last
intense rainstorm, the floor scupper was blocked overnight (matter was down
inside it...I had a devil of a time clearing the blockage....) & I had @ 6"
of water in the cockpit. II have a partial cover but of course have no
full cockpit cover...covering the entire cockpit is a bit more complicated
as
I have the pedestal and wheel. So I'll go down just before dark again
tonite & clear what I can & then just deal with it in the AM. I have no fear
of
my lovely boat doing anything but floating even if the cockpit is bathing
ready. Thank you SS.
