Subject: My New 22

Well - It's new to me. A couple of years ago I bought a Rhodes 22 which I believe was built in '87 (I think). Didn't get to do anything with it until this year. I started to get it ready this year and have a couple of questions.

1.. At least 4 of the 6 windows leak. Strangely enough the two openable ones in the front seem to be fine. It's the ones on the side of the cabin that all leak. I suspect it's because of the curve of the cabin but that's beside the point. The caulk on the windows is some kind of clear silicon like stuff that is still tacky. Is this the original stuff? How the heck do you get it off!! It took me all day to get just one out.
2.. The clevis pins on the mast head for the fore and back stays go through a bridle like piece to which the stay is attached. I am missing the one for the fore stay. What are these called so I can order a replacement.
3.. My little ship is one of the earlier models and the traveler is a piece of rope and a pully. It looks like a second copy of the back stay tensioning mechanism. Can I retrofit the new traveler to my boat?
4.. Anyone have a drawing of the running rigging for these boats? I have ferrules and pulleys and whatnot all over and can't decide what they're all for.
5.. The shivs on the blocks(?) for the jib sheets are all UV damaged. Are these replacable or will I have to whole new blocks?
6.. Likewise the rollers on the spreader shrouds were sun rotted and fell off in my hands. What is the proper name for these and where can I get them.
7.. One of the spreader ends that clamps on the shroud is cracked. Any idea where I can get a replacement for that?
8.. Has anyone come up with a better way to run the wires up the mast? I succeeded in chopping the off the second time I stepped the mast. I'm reluctant to mount connectors in the mast itself because it may weaken it too much. I have an antenna cable and the cable for the lights (currently just the forward running light but I want to add a deck light).
9.. Last question: The bolt that holds the spreader sockets to the mast has worn a slot in the mast. Does anyone have a clever fix for this? My current plan is to have reinforcing plates welded on to repair the hole. I'm not sure how to keep this from happening again. The bolt can't be tightened because it'll crush the mast. This is moot anyway because the mast also flexes/crushes (elastically) while sailing from the pressure of the spreader effectively loosening the bolt for the duration of the tack.
That's it for now. Got to sail her for about an hour this season. Sigh - next year will be different - I swear!

I lied - I have one more question. I've seen pictures on the rhodes22.org or .com website of a jin pole rig to raise the mast. What does the butt end of this rest on. It looks like it sits on something going across the hatch opening but on my ship that would be the hatch in the pop top. I wouldn't have guessed the pop top is strong enough for that. How is this thing built?

Thanks for listening.

Dave
