[Rhodes22-list] Mast raising land or water

I just lost the spreader bracket shims to old age, the boat is an 86.  
Since I noticed this just before raising the mast, I just replaced  
them with red rubber hose gaskets slit open. And slid into place. Have  
you or anyone else had to replace them, and what did you do?
