Stephen,

I too agree with Mike that the "midspan support wouldn't hurt." It would
also be easy to fabricate and most important it would give you peace of
mind.  I certainly wouldn't want my mast bending.

On the other hand it appears that a Rhodes mast has never been damaged
from such abuse, so to quote Mike the New Yorker again, you can
"fagetaboutit."
