Hi All,
Welcome back Bill. I have been reading the list for years, even though I post quite rarely. I find the information invaluable, and now reading about your trip to the Dry Tortugas makes me want to quit my job and sail full time! I feel like I know all of you from your postings, and am happy and proud to be a Rhodes owner!
Happy Sailing!

After a long break from Da List, I am back and hope to be able to monitor it
once again. By way of reintroduction, my name is Bill Wickman, also known on
the list a few years ago as " Bahama Bill" after I sailed my Rhodes22 to the
Bahamas with my son and his friend. I posted my trip log which may still be in
the archives if you are interested in reading. My experience with the Rhode22
goes back to 2004 when I bought a 2000 model and have since pushed it to its
limits (according to Stan) and had Stan repair and upgrade/refurbish a couple of
times since. I guess I most like to use the boat for adventure trips, but
sailing the lakes of TN is also fun. Haven't raced it yet but may just do that
in the next year.

My home port is Knoxville, TN, but I have trailered the boat around the
Southeast, mostly to Florida. My most recent trip was in May when I pulled it
all the way down to Key West. Picked my daughter up from Univ. of Miami, and
she, my son and I sailed out to the Dry Tortugas. I am still trying to write up
my trip notes and will put it on the listserve if anyone is interested.

I recognize some of you all from my former years (Rummy for one; how could
anyone forget). Whatever happened to the likes of Slim, Bill Effros, Tootle,
Roger, etc.?

Man I love this boat!!!

Bahama Bill

Bill,
Welcome back. A few of us oldsters are still hanging around, but many left
to go to a more political site. Since this is a sailing site, we threw them
out. Now we just have sailors and drunks hanging around. I was in the Keys
this spring for a get together of the Coconut Castaways, which I am a
proud member. We raised thirty grand for "Cure Camp" which is sponsored by KOA
campgrounds for children with incurable diseases and their siblings. The
whole trip was mostly a blurr, but I must have had fun according to my credit
card charges. Did you know that Mt. Gay rum is considered bar rail booze
down there? I was in heaven.

Well then. I guess I better get busy... It was a great trip. The only way I
could coax my 22 year old son and 19 year old daughter away from their other
lives. Had them all to myself for an entire week.

Orin,

You do not know me well enough yet, but I meant no offense. If you do make
those parts, make a half a dozen more and give me a price on them.

Todd,

I've always understood Stan's wisdom regarding the C&S.

I don't think I need one nor should I be badgered to purchase a C&S to simply

purchase a part.

Orin,

As I recall, Stan had them custom made. I was redoing my railings 30

years ago, and Stan got me those cool fittings. If they are no longer available

they shouldn't be too hard to fabricate.

Hi Bill,

Welcome "home" - the place is a bit quieter without the heavy political
commentary (if you need controversy, just tune into Bill E's Swiftwater Gazette)
but basically it hasn't changed much. We all got a little older, with the
exception of Stan, who never ages.

I had just joined the list in early '06 and was simply amazed by the account of
your travels. For those who may not have been aboard in those days, I collected
links (below) to all of the "chapters" of the journey from the archives.
Hopefully, the links are still working - please let me know if any are bad.

the list a few years ago as " Bahama Bill" after I sailed my Rhodes22 to the
Bahamas with my son and his friend.
Haven't raced it yet but may just do that
in the next year.

she, my son and I sailed out to the Dry Tortugas. I am still trying to write up
my trip notes and will put it on the listserve if anyone is interested.

Hi John & Orin,

I just couldn't believe that I was unable to locate the fitting. I did,
however find some very interesting rail systems. Check out
www.buyrailings.com and look at the aluminum Hollaender Speed Railings
flanges at: http://www.buyrailings.com/lc-catid-196-k-flanges.htm

Hi Mike -
Nice to meet you and thanks for the links.
Too bad they don't make them in stainless.

I heard back from Stan regarding them and he said they haven't used that style
in years but that he may have one on a project boat.

Orin

Hi Todd,
No offense taken...If I do make some I'll let you and the list know.
Stan said he doesn't have them except maybe on a "project" boat and there may be

other that need them.

Orin,

? You do not know me well enough yet, but I meant no offense.? If you do make
those parts, make a half a dozen more and give me a price on them.

Todd,

I've always understood Stan's wisdom regarding the C&S.

I don't think I need one nor should I be badgered to purchase a C&S to simply

purchase a part.

Orin,

? ? ? As I recall, Stan had them custom made.? I was redoing my railings 30

years ago, and Stan got me those cool fittings.? If they are no longer available

they shouldn't be too hard to fabricate.

Bill,
Welcome back! Your account of the Bahamas trip is still amazing and convinced
me that I don't want to do that... I can't believe you sailed to the Dry
Tortugas because after reading about that I also decided that was not a good
idea on the R-22. However, you have proven me wrong so I can't wait to read
your account. I used to sail out of Lake Hartwell, but now it is Savannah, GA
and trailer to Punta Gorda a couple times a year and am definitely not as
adventurous as you.

with my son and his friend. I posted my trip log which may still be in the
archives if you are interested in reading. My experience with the Rhode22 goes
back to 2004 when I bought a 2000 model and have since pushed it to its limits
(according to Stan) and had Stan repair and upgrade/refurbish a couple of times
since. I guess I most like to use the boat for adventure trips, but sailing the
lakes of TN is also fun. Haven't raced it yet but may just do that in the next
year.

my trip notes and will put it on the listserve if anyone is interested.

Welcome back Bahama Bill! Look forward to reading of your trip to the Dry
Tortugas. You may recall there were two R22 owners who sailed out from the west

coast of Florida: one from Naples, and the other from Ft. Myers if I recall
properly.

We love sailing in Biscayne Bay.
