Ed,
My understanding was that the R22 was designed for places like Long 
Island Sound which also makes it a great boat for the Chesapeake Bay 
which is where we sail. There are quite a few R22s on the Chesapeake.

There are also a fair number of folks sailing on smaller lakes as it 
is also a good daysailer.
